ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA GSP RESCUE
HOW WE WORK: We are a breed-specific Rescue specializing in German
Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs). As a not-for-profit organization, we
operate through volunteers and networking to assure proper placement
and lifetime assistance for each dog and enjoyment by adopting families.
GSP Rescue takes purebred GSPs from any situation for careful evaluation
and placement. All dogs are altered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and
come with a warranty contract which provides lifetime training and
support.
EVALUATION: Expert knowledge of the GSP enables us to evaluate each dog's temperament,
training, health and interaction with their environment including;
children, cats, birds, other dogs, cars, house manners. We provide
recommendations for necessary training too. This enables us to match
the perfect dog to each adopter and find every GSP a perfect home!
FOSTER HOMES: Dogs are housed in foster homes where they are nurtured
and loved, trained and socialized until a new home is found. We have
constant need for foster homes as many foster families adopt one or
more of the dogs they are fostering.
QUALIFIED HOMES: Potential adopters of Rescue GSPs must qualify
before a placement is made. There must be a suitable fenced area adjacent
to the home and the adopting family must demonstrate a knowledge of
the breed and its unique needs. the ideal situation is where the dog
can be an indoor/outdoor dog. Prior ownership of a GSP or close association
with one is desirable. Also of great consideration is the activity
level of the the family because this breed thrives on regular, active
participation with its family.
ADOPTION CONTRACTS: The adopter signs a contract ensuring the
care and well-being of the dog under rescues guidance: initial
and follow-ups visits by Rescue are agreed and obedience training
is arranged. Other services provided to adopters include: clinic shots,
free training, participation in Club events and unlimited consultations.
AKC REGISTRATION: GSP rescue dogs are eligible for registration
as Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP) which allows participation in
all AKC events except conformation shows. That makes Rescue GSPs just
as great as any other registered dog! If you are interested in ILP
we will glady assist you.
HUNT TRAINING: $120 total for the compete course package including
the training seminar, 21+ hours instruction, obedience, steady to
wing and shot, intro to retrieving, tracking and water work, available
only to adopters who are approved as club members. Non-members are
offered training at $60 per hour in semi-private classes. In ten weeks
most trainers have a steady gun dog. Agility and other activities
are also available, so your interest is the only limit!
COST: A healthy, purebred, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped
and vaccinated dog, eligible for AKC ILP and covered by warranty with
lifetime training and assistance requires a qualified home and a donation
of $200!
