Our motto: "A hunt for a good home." We place dogs who didn't get a good deal the first time around, or sometimes had a good deal that abruptly ended. Dogs, supplies, and funds are donated. The club assists in finding foster homes and owners, and operates referrals to help place dogs.
If you are interested in adopting, please help us start the process by filling out our Adoption Application.

Dutch is a 7+ year old male GSP who, after three years, was returned to the rescue by his adoptive family. The adopting family recently had a baby and stated that Dutch wasn't adjusting well to the baby being in the house and that he grew anxious and excited when the baby cried. Under normal circumstances, this would be a training issue, however, training was not an option. In the best interest of Dutch, he was returned to the rescue. Don't let Dutch's age or gray hair fool you. He is seven going on two. The first day that he was in the field he romped and played with all the (mostly younger) dogs. He has had training and has been well cared for. Dutch was an only dog but might also do well in a multi-dog home.

Barney 7 yrs old. Good ol' boy who would enjoy just hanging out with you. Gets along well with other dogs but would do nicely as an only dog too. Barney was rescued from a high kill shelter in Los Angeles. Saved from being put to sleep, he needs to find a forever home that will give him the love and attention that he needs. |

Mucho 8 mos old that was got lucky twice. The first time when he survived the accident that he was in and the second from the shelter where he was rescued the day before he was to be put to sleep. Unusually mellow for a young GSP. He prefers to be indoors rather than outdoors and is well behaved inside. |

Willy 2 yrs old. What a great looking dog! Stacks himself as if he was in a show ring. Young and energetic. Could benefit from a few of the free obedience training classes held Saturday mornings. |

Pudge 3 years old. A GSP/Lab mix. Great dog for someone that wants a dog slightly calmer than a GSP. He could use some training but a nine-year-old girl was able to handle him when he got his photo taken. |

Toby 15 mos Lots of energy to burn (like most young GSPs). Needs someone that give him plenty of playtime and some training. |

Gunner 2 yrs old. Shy boy that needs a gentle hand to train and socialize. Gets along well with other dogs. |

Catie 6 yr old female whose owners recently passed away. She and her sister, Cassie, are both looking for a loving home, although it does not need to be the same one. Gets along well with most other dogs. Active adult that is

The California German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue is sponsored by the GSP Club of DeLuz Mountain Empire. Many of our rescued Shorthairs enjoy foster homes provided by members of the GSP Club of DeLuz Mountain Empire. All dogs are spayed or neutered, inoculated, microchipped, crate trained, and evaluated before placement. Most dogs are purebred shorthairs, some are shorthair mixes Adoptions must be approved by the GSP Rescue Committee, which verifies information. Many of the dogs have also been taken through some amount of obedience, show, or hunt training by the club members. Dogs placed from the California German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue are healthy, warranted by an adoption contract, and are eligible for free obedience training through the GSP Club of DeLuz Mountain Empire.

NEW DOG OWNERS, SUPPLIES, ASSISTANCE NEEDED
Since we rescue GSPs throughout Southern California, we get a high number of rescue dog referrals. With all of the traffic, we need more assistance.
ITEMS AND HELP THAT WE MUST HAVE:
MEMBERS
We need the help of members to come to the Rescue Center on Saturday mornings for Rescue Dog Training. It helps make the dogs more adoptable.
NEW OWNERS
These dogs desperately want and need responsible owners dedicated to giving them a loving home and willing to properly raise them to be well-behaved dogs.
FOSTER HOMES
These dogs are not perfect, but have no chance to become upstanding dogs without a chance to stay alive until new owners can come for them.
TRANSPORTATION
Dogs need shuttling between shelters, foster homes, and their potential adopters from the Mexican border to Santa Barbara. It's a rewarding and often pleasurable way to spend a weekend afternoon.
REFERRALS
Permanent homes are what they need. Adopters referred to us must be screened to ensure that these dogs will be adequately attended, have appropriate yards for exercise, and will have a special person matched with them for love and appreciation.
TRAINERS
We can use people to come by on Saturday mornings to help train the rescue dogs prior to placement. A trained rescue dog is a dog that will place quicker and be less likely to be returned to the Rescue Shelter because of problems.
RESOURCES
We always have a need for used kennel crates (such as airline transport containers) to house rescue dogs. Our dog food of choice is the Nutro brand of dog foods. We'll take anything you can send us. Fees for adoptions barely cover the incurred animal shelter fees, neutering, and immunization costs, so donations of every type keep us afloat. Cash, check, or money order donations are also graciously accepted.
Please contact Jan Flaherty at the address and number listed below if:
