If you’re looking for a handsome, affectionate, energetic GSP who thinks being next to his people is the best place in the world, Buddy Boy may be your guy!

Buddy Boy is a stunning 3 1/2 -year-old white and liver German Shorthaired Pointer with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He is an affectionate, people-loving “velcro dog” who wants to be wherever his humans are. He absolutely loves companionship and would be happiest with a family who wants a dog who is truly part of the family.

Buddy Boy came to us because his previous owner was unable to provide him with the time, training, exercise, and mental stimulation that an active young GSP needs. Without enough to keep his body and mind busy, Buddy Boy became bored and began looking for his own adventures—including jumping the fence.

And Buddy Boy is talented at it. He can clear a 6-foot fence, so his new family will need to be prepared to carefully manage and supervise him outdoors. This isn't something we want to leave to chance. The good news is that giving Buddy Boy the exercise, training, structure, and stimulation he needs will go a long way toward helping him settle and stay engaged with his people.

Buddy Boy's Personality

Buddy Boy is sweet, lovable, energetic, and affectionate. He loves people and lived with young children, including children ages 5 and 6, and was very good with them.

He also enjoys the company of other dogs and does well with well-mannered, socialized canine friends.

Buddy Boy is a smart boy who wants to learn. He is very treat motivated, which makes training an enjoyable experience for both him and his person. He's a good listener, learns quickly, and has already been making progress with us.

He is crate trained and does fairly well on leash, although he is a strong young dog and still needs some work on pulling.

One important note: Buddy Boy is not good with cats, so he needs a cat-free home.

The Right Home for Buddy Boy

Buddy Boy needs an active, committed home that understands what life with a young GSP is really like.

He needs:

Lots of daily exercise
Daily mental stimulation and training
Continued positive training and structure
An active family who wants to do things with their dog
A home with well-mannered, socialized dogs is okay
He can live with children
No cats
Secure outdoor management—he can jump a 6-foot fence
A family committed to helping him transition to indoor family life

There are no days off when it comes to Buddy Boy's exercise and stimulation needs. Keeping his body and mind busy will be an important part of helping him succeed.

Buddy Boy was previously kept primarily as an outdoor dog, so he will need house training as he learns to enjoy all the comforts of living indoors with his family.

But imagine what this boy could become with someone who is willing to put in the time.

Give him exercise. Give him structure. Give him training. Give him a job. Give him your time and companionship.

And Buddy Boy will give you his whole heart.

He's smart. He's eager to learn. He's affectionate. He's treat motivated. He's a good listener. And most importantly, he wants to be with his people.

A life filled with walks, adventures, training sessions, belly rubs, companionship, and plenty of opportunities to use that wonderful GSP brain.
