For the past 11 years—since he was a puppy—Leo knew only one family and one home. When their living arrangements changed, and they couldn't keep him, Leo found himself suddenly starting chapter two.

But do not let the "senior" label fool you. At 11 years old, Leo is absolutely no couch potato.

We are looking for an adopter who appreciates a senior's mellow disposition but still desires an active connection. While many dogs his age are winding down, Leo still has serious "fetching in him." He is amazing to watch in an open field and loves to retrieve.

Despite being an only dog his entire life, Leo has been surprisingly impressive when meeting well-mannered dogs. He was "wonderful" playing fetch alongside both calm and high-energy dogs. He was even "very tolerant" when introduced to a puppy, breaking the mold of many older dogs who do not like a puppy's energy. While we don't know for sure if he's a multi-dog home candidate yet, his initial interactions suggest he could do well with well-behaved canine siblings.

The Basics:

  • Gender: Male

  • Age: 11 years

  • Dogs: Surprisingly tolerant. Has done well with well-behaved dogs; was very tolerant even with a puppy.

  • Cats: Unknown history.

  • Kids: Lived with older children

What the Volunteers are saying:

  • "This guy is something else."

  • "There's nothing the matter with this dog!"

  • "Very good dog, loves pets"

  • "Pretty calm"

  • "He's been very tolerant and terrific."

  • "He brings back the tennis ball when playing fetch!"

The Good Stuff:

  • The "Easy" Choice: Compared to the 15-year grind of raising a puppy, Leo is the "easy" choice. He has an amazing four to five years left to give a dedicated owner.

  • Athlete at Heart: He is amazing at fetch and still has plenty of energy for outdoor play.

  • Adaptable Socialite: For a dog who has only known his previous owners for over a decade, he has been incredibly tolerant and open to meeting new dogs in rescue.

The Challenges:

  • New Territory: Having been an only dog for 11 years, he lived his entire life outside

  • Car Rides: He may experience motion sickness and heavy drooling during longer car travel.

Leo's world changed overnight, but his spirit hasn't. Adopting Leo isn't about a decade-long commitment; it's about promising him that his last four or five years will be his best years. These are the years you will laugh, you may cry, and you will cherish the time spent together in the best ways. Leo is ready to offer affection and companionship to someone willing to open their home and heart up to him.

Please submit an application today to give Leo the loving final chapter he deserves.
