A 12-Week-Old “Stray” Puppy Found at a Shelter… Cinnamon’s Story Begins
How does a 12-week-old German Shorthaired Pointer puppy wind up alone in a crowded shelter—and why did no one come looking for her? That was the question weighing on everyone's minds the day we learned of Cinnamon.
Volunteers Greg and Sydney arrived at the shelter expecting the usual noise and weekend rush, but Sydney, unaware of who they were picking up, didn't expect a tiny GSP puppy listed as a stray. At just 12 weeks old, Cinnamon was far younger than the typical "puppy" intakes California GSP Rescue sees—most arrive at five, six, or seven months, when their energy begins to overwhelm their owners. But Cinnamon? She was still baby-soft, still clumsy, still learning how her legs worked.
And somehow, no one claimed her.
As volunteers, we may never know what really happened, but we do know this: whoever dropped her off risked her safety. Shelters are overwhelmed, and every intake—even a puppy—faces uncertainty. Cinnamon deserved better.
Once in our care, Cinnamon revealed herself instantly: silly, sweet, endlessly curious, and full of joyful trouble. She bounced, explored, chewed on a tennis shoe, and even tried her best to win over the cat. She's the picture of what GSP puppies truly are—playful, mischievous, and a lot of work.
In the video, Greg introduces another dog alongside her: Leo, an adult GSP who is easygoing, well-mannered, and available for adoption. While Cinnamon's story will draw the most attention (because who can resist a puppy?), we hope her rescue shines a light on older dogs like Leo—dogs whose best years are ahead of them, and whose needs are far simpler.
If you're considering adopting a puppy, Cinnamon is a reminder of both the joy and the responsibility. If you're looking for a German Shorthaired Pointer for adoption but hoping for an easier path, Leo might be the perfect match.
