Finnick Is Adopted!

Finnick, a young German Shorthaired Pointer, arrived at the shelter as a stray. No one came forward to claim him. Then came the heartbreaking truth: he had been hit by a car, leaving him with a fractured leg and a deep gash on his paw. In overcrowded shelters, injured dogs are rarely given extra time. Once their short holding period ends, most are humanely euthanized—unless a rescue steps in.

Despite everything Finnick went through, his personality shined. At first timid and unsure, he learned to trust, trading fear for tail wags, and following his people everywhere.

Finnick healed up beautifully and was finally ready for his forever family. We knew he would thrive with someone active, patient, and prepared to give him the love he’s been waiting for.

Ingrid and Mark applied to adopt a young GSP. Never having a GSP before, they did grow up with dogs in their household. After researching the breed and intentionally spending time dog-sitting a GSP over the holidays, they fell in love with their personality and confirmed that a GSP was a dog they wanted to build a bond with, and knew that their lifestyle would support this commitment. On their application, they stated “We enjoy investing time in training, care and simply being present with a dog. As we move toward an early retirement, we’ll have even more time and flexibility. More than anything, we want to adopt a GSP because we’re ready to offer a loving, stable home and because our house (and hearts) are ready for muddy paws, couch cuddles and a dog that feels right at home in the middle of it all”.

Their application came in just about the time Finnick was medically released to be adopted. We were so impressed with Ingrid and Mark’s commitment, that we thought they would be the perfect match for Finnick. And we were right!

Finnick has been in his forever home with Ingrid and Mark for a few months now, and things could not be better. They are over the moon in love with Finnick, and we are happy to share some updates since going home!

“We adopted Finnick in January and somehow it’s already April. Life feels fuller now. At first, he was quiet. The second week he was sleeping , A LOT. We even took him to the vet thinking something was wrong; turns out he was just finally feeling safe enough to rest. And then his personality showed up.

He’s funny, smart and somehow knows exactly what he wants. He’s also a total Velcro dog, always by our side and matching our energy. With Mark he’s more wild, with me he’s calmer and it’s so fun to see.

He brings us toys when he is excited to see us (and sometimes full blankets) like gifts… and destroys every toy in about 5 minutes.

Our routine changed in the best way. We’re outside more, exploring, running and yes, spending a lot of time watching squirrels.

One thing we’ve learned: adult dogs aren’t a blank slate. And that’s the best part.

Finnick came to us already house trained and knowing commands. It honestly felt like finding a little treasure. Now we’re just learning each other more every day.

It’s not effortless, especially with a GSP, but it’s incredibly rewarding. He didn’t just join our life, he made it better.

Thank you for this beautiful opportunity”
