Houdini: How One Woman’s Kindness Saved a Senior Dog’s Life
When Kerry saw a powder-faced dog wandering near the railroad tracks, she couldn’t look away. The senior German Shorthaired Pointer mix was painfully thin. His ribs protruded under his coat, and his fur was uneven and patchy in spots. His eyes seemed to carry a quiet resignation.
She named him Houdini, not because he was an escape artist, but because he had escaped a life of neglect.
Kerry scooped him up, took him to the vet, and began the slow, patient process of bringing him back to health. Over the next few months, Houdini gained strength and discovered something he’d never truly known before: love.
But with three cats at home who wouldn’t accept him, Kerry knew Houdini needed a family of his own. She then reached out to California GSP Rescue. A rescue dedicated to saving and rehoming German Shorthaired Pointers in California.
From his first exam to meeting volunteer Teri, who has a soft spot for senior dogs, to settling into his foster home, Houdini touched every heart he met.
Now this sweet senior dog is healthy, full of gratitude, and ready to share his gentle spirit with a forever family. He’s hoping for a home filled with love, soft beds, short walks, and plenty of pets.
