In Loving Memory Of Hachiko

Hachiko means "faithful" in Japanese, and that he was.

Hachiko came to us at 5 years old, surrendered due to some challenges stemming from a difficult past, but Hachiko was a great dog. Loved by all of the volunteers who would say:

“Such a peaceful dog”

“One of the best dogs we have, always looking for fun”

“Great dog”

“Loves to play ball, drops and waits for you to throw”

“Sits for treats, fun, kisses”

While Hachiko was not a dog for everyone, we knew he needed a special adopter. Someone who could manage him, treat him with kindness and patience, and would see what we saw in him, that Hachiko was quite a treasure.

Kari adopted Hachiko in Feb 2022. Hachiko was not your ordinary easy dog that everyone wanted. Actually no one wanted him, nor could just anyone manage his behaviors. This was the attraction for Kari, as she is a very experienced dog owner, and made multiple trips to the rescue to prove she would be able to manage this dog with a plethora of issues.

Needless to say, Hachiko thrived in Kari’s care and the two were inseparable.  We were beyond thrilled for both Kari and Hachiko as they were a match made in heaven.

Recently, we received the sad news that Hachiko crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. We are very grateful to Kari for seeing the potential we saw in Hachiko, and managing to bring out the very best in him.

“Today I had to say goodbye to a piece of my heart. Hachiko was more than a pet—he was family, a loyal companion, and a constant source of love, comfort, and joy. The house is quieter now, but the memories he gave us will stay forever: the walks, the adventures, the funny habits, and the unconditional love that made every day brighter.

I especially want to thank California GSP Rescue for bringing Hachiko to me. Your rescue is amazing — your love and care for the sweet dogs and care you take to find us humans the perfect match is beyond wonderful. Because of them, I had the privilege of sharing so many wonderful years with an extraordinary dog.

Run free, sweet boy. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten”.
