Lady Is Adopted!
Lady came into the rescue as an owner surrender along with another GSP, when their owners realized they were not equipped to manage the energy of two 6 month old GSP’s. We knew that we would be able to place them both with applicants who were experienced and knowledgeable about the breed and knew the expectations of the training and exercise required for a young GSP to thrive.
Kellie and Steve had 2 GSP’s that they raised from puppies until they passed away as seniors. They applied for a young female puppy under a year old just about the time Lady came to us. Their lifestyle fit, their experience was a fit, and they were ready to do it all over again. We introduced them to Lady, and she was exactly what their hearts needed. Lady did not know it yet, but her life was about to change in more ways than she could imagine.
We will let them tell you about it.
”Hello Teri and Greg,
Lady Bug is adapting just fine for the first week. We have only had 3 accidents in the house, oopsie. She is a puppy in a big body! She is learning things fast, like not to jump on to the counter tops, couch, bed etc... couch cuddle time will come later when she is invited up. As for now we just get down on the floor w/ her or one of the four beds she has to love on her.
Lady is doing great! Loves to play ball! It seems that she already knows how to play fetch, and not much effort to get her to drop or release the ball. We have been on a walk every day, and when she gets home to drink water she collapses in the midst and still drinks while lying down. We haven't been to the beach yet, but plan to in the near future. She loves a good car ride with the wind in her face and her nose smelling as much as she can take in.
She has a blast running up and down the dock and scoping out all of the different kinds of birds. She takes puppy naps throughout the day which allows me to get a few chores done.
She has gotten used to her new home quickly I think, and has become my new shadow. We will continue teaching each other new things everyday and forming a stronger bond.
Happy Thursday!
Kellie, Steve and Lady Bug”
“Dear GSP Friends,
We have had 2 GSP's in the past and no regrets on getting our third addition to the family. This is the most loyal, protective, loving and smartest breed I know!
Our first GSP's were puppies when we got them, so this was a new experience for us having never rescued one before.
When we got her home she was like a B.B. In a box car, a puppy in a big body! So many new things to be discovered! A simple leaf blowing down the street or a super long stick that can't make it through the doorway and what is this sandy stuff with water that keeps chasing me at the beach? She runs super fast!
She knows now that it's not okay to put her paws up on the counter tops and a couple of other things, but that's to be expected. I think we maybe had a total of 4 or 5 p.p. accidents in the beginning, but that was an easy fix. She has come a long way and is such a sweet girl. Lady aims to please.
She knows all the sounds around the house. For instance, when the closet doors open up in the morning, she's knows it's the beginning of a brand new day and she is so excited to get it started. Or it could be the sound of the keys that say, we're going for a car ride. Which means wind in her face and a good long run with her girlfriend Heidi who is also a GSP.
I have been teaching her hand signals along the way. Twirling my pointer finger means we're going outside. Putting my hand out in a stop position means stay, and many others.
Lady is a great guard dog and I LOVE IT! She let's us know when strangers are around with a big loud ferocious bark!
My husband went for a walk the other day with Lady to see Heidi, and just as they went out the gate, she caught a small field mouse! I heard my name being shouted and out I came running. When I saw that cute little mouse in her mouth......OMG! Good thing we taught her the word "Drop!" We were both shaking our heads in awe and disbelief. She brought me a hummingbird one time too, but I'm not sure if it was already dead or she actually got it? Monarchs are another fascination, caught one of those too. I pried her mouth open and it flew away, YAY! Lady keeps all the spiders at bay too. She goes along all the edges of the house between the floor and cupboards and either chases them or eats them, not sure which? I finally got it when she came up for air and her nose had a big web on it, LOL! I wouldn't want to be a daddy long legs in this house! I think she will eat just about anything, including WORMS!
Lady loves getting in the shower/bath, which is very refreshing because our last two GSP's did not! Bath time is fun and easy.
We have many names for her......Lady, Lady Bug, Lady Bird, Lady Godiva, just to name a few, but it's mostly just "Lady"
She really has come a long way and is so super smart and loving! I think she has become very attached to us and feels a sense of comfort.
I also think WE have become attached too.
I wish everyone could see what an amazing breed they really are!
Sincerely,
Kellie, Steve, & Lady”
