Auggie Was Young & Sweet. Why Wasn’t She Adopted?

Auggie is only one year old. She is sweet, playful, healthy, eager to please, and full of the life you would expect from a young German Shorthaired Pointer.

So why was she still at the shelter?

It is a question we asked ourselves when California GSP Rescue met her. Auggie had everything going for her: a friendly personality, a curious spirit, and the kind of energy that can make a young GSP an incredible companion for the right person. Yet she had not been claimed or adopted.

Once Auggie was rescued, she began showing us even more. She settled in well, rode comfortably in the car, and started meeting other dogs. She has done well with most well-socialized dogs she has met. In a multi-dog home, she will need thoughtful introductions and well-socialized, non-reactive canine companions.

Auggie also likes car rides; she enjoys walks and playing with the pack. She behaves well on a leash when there aren’t any distractions, but she isn't looking for a lifestyle that involves short walks around the neighborhood. While she would love to go with you on your short walk, she is one year old and will require more exercise, training, mental stimulation, and owners who enjoy having an active dog at the heart of their day.

It is precisely this fact that makes Auggie's story so difficult to understand—and at the same time so full of hope.

She is not a dog who needs to be “fixed.” She needs the right adopter: someone who wants a sweet, responsive, playful GSP and is ready to give her the outlet, guidance, and affection she deserves.
