Sparkle Is Adopted!
Sparkle came to us after her family discovered that one of their children had allergies to dogs, and unfortunately had to surrender her. We are grateful they reached out to us to help rather than take her to a shelter.
Sparkle fit her name, as she lit up a room wherever she went! A bit shy, but very social, and loved to play with other dogs. She was very active and so much fun to be around. We were looking for a home that would appreciate her personality and energy, and be devoted to continue her training, and give her plenty of exercise and stimulation. She was already house trained, crate trained and dog door trained. Having another dog to play with would be a dream for Sparkle. She loves making friends.
Shannon and Marcus applied to adopt a young female GSP to be a companion for their GSP, Mazie. They had adopted Mazie when she was 2 years old, so they were familiar with the energy a 1-2 year old GSP can bring into a household. On their application they said “We are willing to put in the work. We are consistent, and understand that this breed is very energetic”.
We knew in our hearts that this wonderful family would be a great fit for Sparkle. They came out and met Sparkle and another dog, and they felt Sparkle would be the best fit for them. After getting Mazie’s paw of approval, they decided to adopt her. Sparkle was a volunteer favorite, and waited a long time for this day, and we couldn’t be happier.
Sparkle now known as Maddyn is doing great! Since going to her forever home a little over a month ago, we have received a few updates, and we are very grateful to Shannon and Marcus for reaching out to us, and choosing to adopt a rescue dog!
“We wanted to update you on how Maddyn (aka-Sparkle) is doing. She is such a sweet, curious girl. We took her on a walk, or she took my husband on a walk, yesterday afternoon. She slept through the night beautifully and loves her crate. Mazie is adjusting to Maddyn. We had her get in the pool real quick at the stairs. She wanted out quickly. However, she really likes to drink from it”!
“Good morning,
I wanted to update you on Maddyn after being with us for a week.
She’s curious about everything and learning how things run here. She has met neighbors, her new auntie and cousins. Although timid at first, she became fond of them quickly. However, she still isn’t fond of the pool, or of her balls going in it! She loves when there are extra things (chicken, pumpkin, etc.) in her bowl other than kibble. She is doing well with simple commands, but we will be working on walking on the leash for a bit. Mazie and her have gotten into a groove and enjoy rough housing, but we are trying to keep that outside. Maddyn got a new cave bed, and we are working on her getting into it all on her own so she can snuggle even when we aren’t home. Overall, things are going well”.
“Hello, I wanted to update you on Maddyn after being with us for a month. She’s doing fantastic!
She has definitely learned the routine and gets very excited in the mornings to go play fetch at the park. She also loves our afternoon walks with Mazie. We tried the Canny Collar, but she hated it and tried to get it off most of the walk. She is learning to heal and knows our daily walk, so she’s walking with confidence now.
The pool is still not her favorite thing, but she continues to drink from it and walk up to the jacuzzi when we are in it.
She is still sleeping in our room in her crate, but now with the crate door opened. We are hoping to transition her to the Cozy Cave bed, but want her to feel most comfortable.
Mazie and Maddyn are still loving to play. They seem to be doing well while we are gone. Maddyn occupied herself one day this week by chewing on one of my baskets I had a plant potted in. She was very proud to show me!
She has met many new people and is less and less timid. In fact, I call her Wiggle Butt often because she gets so excited with visitors, her whole body wiggles.
We absolutely love her and look forward to many more years with our sweet girl”.
Have a great day!
Shannon
