The smallest dog we’ve ever brought to Splish Splash had no trouble making a big impression.
Maddie is 12, much smaller than most of the dogs at the event, and apparently was more than capable of joining the fun. She started in a separate pen so she wouldn’t get stepped on. Once she joined the group, she did wonderfully.
That was one of many reasons to smile at California GSP Rescue’s ninth annual Splish Splash.
Adopters returned with dogs who are now part of their families. Volunteers spent time with dogs still hoping for that same chance. There was swimming, fetch, and plenty of petting for those GSPs who preferred getting pets to a dip in the pool.
Camilla, nine, enjoyed a little swimming and did well with the other dogs. She had an adoption appointment the day before, but the potential adopter decided to pass. The good news is that it let her join in the fun. Watching her enjoy the afternoon, Volunteer David, who had rescued her from the shelter, said it best: someone had missed out on a very good dog.
Arnold, a 2-year-old GSP Mix, befriended Jennifer with much-appreciated kisses, then settled beside her for attention. 3-year-old Atlas spent the early part of the event running and playing with the other GSPs before taking a break for pets, too!
Bonded siblings Hans and Hannah were enthusiastic fetch partners. They’re looking for a home together. Ivy, about four, enjoyed meeting people and other dogs. Her eyes were treated, and she has since seen Dr. Kang, who diagnosed the issue as allergy-related and said she is progressing well.
Oreo was among the dogs joining us, too. And Scott, rescued from a shelter with his mother and siblings, showed how much he enjoyed being close to people.
If you’re considering a German Shorthaired Pointer for adoption, this video offers a chance to meet several personalities. You’ll also hear from Rip’s and Banjo’s adopters about life after rescue.

Thank you to Deana, Richard, and everyone who helped make the day possible.
Could one of these dogs fit your life? Apply to adopt, become a Rescue Hero, or share the video. Helping someone discover their next companion would be a wonderful way to keep this good day going.
