Trudy Is Adopted!

Trudy, a small GSP Mix was found walking down a rural mountain road, where the hum of an occasional passing car's tires was swallowed by the vast openness. The shelter calls asking for help. They say she is pregnant, alone, and about to give birth. Trudy went into labor inside the shelter. She delivered her puppies as other stray dogs barked in the background.

That’s how Trudy, a petite and impossibly sweet German Shorthaired Pointer mix, came into our lives.

With the window of a medical waiver closed, Trudy had to remain at the shelter for several days in case anyone came to claim her. No one did.

After her hold was up, we brought Trudy and her puppies to safety. Despite everything she’d been through, she greeted us with gentle eyes and a careful wag. Small, delicate, and nervous around strangers—but full of love. A devoted mother. A sweet young dog herself.

Norma, who’s son and daughter in law have adopted from us several times before, and are devoted volunteers and supporters of the rescue, learned about Trudy, and wanted to know more about her. She completed an application, and came out with Jim and Jan to meet her with their dog, Arlo, and it went amazingly well. The two dogs who would see each other often hit it off beautifully, and well, Norma fell head over heals in love with Trudy, and she joined their family.

We are so grateful for this adoption, and we couldn’t imagine a better home for Trudy. We are thrilled that Trudy is enjoying her new life, and that Trudy is bringing so much joy to Norma.

“My first day with Trudy started at the “Walk A Dog’” event. Even though it was pretty cold and windy, Trudy just wanted to see and possibly play with every dog that came out for a walk. She is just a gentle sweetheart and seems to love everybody.

After all of the important paperwork was completed, we were on our way home. Jim and Janet drove us, and Trudy and I sat in the back seat, where she promptly put her head in my lap and slept all the way home.

Our first day at home lead to a lot of exploring outside, particularly our front yard. It is all grass and safely fenced. It has many hedges, flowers, occasional birds, and interesting things that she wanted to investigate. Although we have a fenced back yard and a large fenced pasture area, I think the front yard has turned out to be her favorite place to explore and take care of personal business, but she seems to prefer company with her.

Trudy went on her first trip with us last evening, getting a full checkup from our local vet, and she passed with flying colors. Just recommend she gain a few pounds. That is no problem since she is definitely a chow hound.

So that sort of ended our first day with Trudy at her new home. She seems to be comfortable, and I am so glad to have my new companion Trudy”.
