William Is Adopted!

William, an incredible 10 year old German Shorthaired Pointer Hound mix was found as a stray, and taken to a shelter, where he waited for his family to claim him, but no one came. We rescued William just after Christmas.

This senior boy arrived calm, gentle, and grateful—despite clear signs that he hadn’t been well cared for. From walking easily on a leash to curling up contentedly after a warm bath, William showed everyone exactly who he is: a truly good dog who never should have been overlooked. After a veterinary visit confirmed he’s otherwise healthy, William recently had a growth removed and is now ready for adoption.

It is difficult for us to imagine someone losing a dog like William. He is such an incredibly easy dog. Loves everyone, people and dogs alike. William is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart.

Vicki is a two time repeat adopter. A girl after our own hearts. Always opening her heart and home to whoever needed her the most and were overlooked. She applied to adopt after she lost her beloved Reddy who she adopted from us in January of 2020. She originally applied for a younger dog to join her family, but then she spotted William. She inquired about him, and we let her know that William was available, but also told her that we did discover that he had some health issues, but Vicki being the special person she is, knew she couldn’t say no to this amazing boy despite the fact he was older than she wanted, a mix, and would need to manage his health. Vicki looked past all that, and knew giving a dog like William a home isn't about worrying about how many years he has left, it's about giving an older dog the best years of his life filled with comfort and love.

William has been in his new home for a little over a month, and he is doing very well. Vicki has learned that he is quite a character, and has gotten into a little mischief. William is proof that there is still a puppy in there. We will let Vicki tell you more.

“William only had one accident in the house and that was shortly after we got home yesterday. He was better about getting up this morning and when I think about it, he was awfully exhausted. But we made that long trip and then he had a bath and he’s adjusting to new dogs and a new diet so I just need to be patient”.

“William did well last night, but he is a counter surfer. He ate my hotdog buns, and I had to put my trash in the middle of my kitchen table.. think he’ll level out when he realizes the food supply here is abundant. I heard him in the kitchen last night, free feeding on the kibble. He slept in my room on a dog bed on the floor. Cami is annoyed that he took her chair”.

“He’s really sweet. He just acts like he’s starving all the time. He’ll be a good fit for our lifestyle. He’s just really cute”.

“He kept going in my bathroom yesterday and a couple times during the night. I saw him go in there and when I got up this morning, the last square of the toilet paper was strung out from the roll to my hamper so I guess he pulled the toilet paper”.

“William realizes now he can stand on the couch and see out the front window”.

“William did amazing this morning. He was waiting for me standing by my bed when I got up and ready to go to the dog park. I let him walk in off leash again because of course there’s nobody there at 5:45 in the morning. It’s still dark and he did great! Eating well, and overall he’s doing well and adjusting”.

“Happy Easter! William has so much more energy. He was jumping around before we left the house for the dog park this morning.. so cute and happy to see him feeling good!”

“I made a small prime rib yesterday that I had in my freezer since December and put it on the back of the stove and walked into the kitchen when I heard the pan crashed to the floor just in time to see William picking it up to have it for dinner”!

“William has found his voice! The river is two blocks from my house and I can hear him all the way down to the river when I walk the other two dogs waiting for his turn”!

“Today is our three week anniversary together! Happy he’s on the mend. He is always the first one to the door to go to the dog park every morning, and even though he’s very tired when we get home, he always wants to walk to the river and back when I take Lacey and Shiloh”.

“Sing the praises of a senior dog! He’s housebroken, he doesn’t chew up things. He just likes to surf the counter. He’s very appreciative about being adopted. He follows me everywhere. I don’t know what else to tell you. You know I love him”
