Happy is an 8 year old very handsome liver and roan male German Shorthaired Pointer.
He came to us from a local shelter where he was relinquished by his previous owner, not to find him a new home, but with instructions to euthanize him because he was too old. An eight year old GSP – too old?!? Who turns in their beloved dog to a shelter with instructions to put him to sleep?!? Well, Happy is safe now, and is ready for a brand new home.
Happy is a very sweet easy going guy. He walks great on a leash, and knows sit. He seems to be treat motivated, which will make training easy. We don’t know if he lived in a home, but our guess is that he may have spent a lot of time outside. We are committed to find him a home where he can spend time indoors, take daily walks, be loved and cherished, and be a part of a family.
He doesn’t seem to have been socialized with other dogs, so he would most likely do best as an only dog, or with someone that can work with him with slow introductions to help him make friends.
8 years old is the perfect age for a GSP, especially if you are looking for a more mellow companion who doesn’t have the crazy energy of a young GSP, but who is still able to go for hours, and can chill out with you if it’s only a walk.
This boy loves getting pets and attention from people and treats! He also does well with kids, as we found this out when two young heroines saved him. Happy wasn’t always Happy. His previous family had named him Grumpy, but we found out he isn’t Grumpy at all!
Happy is now available for adoption! If you are interested in fostering or adopting Happy, please apply here.
