Meet Cash — A Gentle Giant With the Biggest Heart

Sometimes, a dog comes into rescue and surprises you.

When we first picked up Cash from the shelter, we thought we knew exactly who he was — a German Shorthaired Pointer or GSP mix, around five years old, and simply another dog looking for a second chance.

But we were wrong.

Cash is a Burgos Pointer.

And as we got to know him, we discovered that his breed isn't nearly as interesting as his personality.

Because Cash is one very special boy.

From his very first outings, Cash showed us just how wonderful he is. Whether stopping for a quiet coffee or going for an easy walk, he settled in quickly and took everything in with a calm, gentle confidence.

He loves people.

He loves other dogs.

And he absolutely loves being loved.

Cash is a world-class cuddler. He'll lean against your legs, bury himself into you, give you kisses, and happily soak up every bit of affection you have to offer. One volunteer said that if he isn't hugging you, he's leaning against your legs.

Honestly, we think Cash may believe personal space is highly overrated.

He's also incredibly handsome, with a unique look and HUGE paws that only add to his gentle-giant charm.

An Adventure Buddy With an Off Switch

At 7 years old, Cash is at that wonderful stage of life where he still enjoys getting out and experiencing the world, but he doesn't need the constant activity of a young GSP.

A good walk or hike is right up his alley. Let him explore, sniff, stretch his legs, and enjoy some time outdoors, and he'll be ready to head home and settle in.

His ideal evening?

Being near his person while you watch Netflix.

Cash is also an excellent car rider and very social, making him a fantastic companion for someone who enjoys taking their dog along. Coffee shops, dog-friendly patios, errands, road trips — Cash would much rather be included than left behind.

Things Cash's Forever Family Should Know

Cash's house-training status is unknown, so his new family should be prepared to house train him and establish a consistent routine as he settles into his new home.

He will also need continued help with house manners, including learning that furniture is not his place to lounge. His new family should be prepared to provide clear, consistent boundaries while giving him plenty of appropriate places of his own to relax.

Cash knows sit and paw and will happily perform both with or without a treat. He also knows down, responds well to correction, and is treat motivated.

He may not be a fetch fanatic, but he did pick up a ball when it was left unattended — so perhaps there's an athlete hiding in there somewhere.

He went right into his crate and settled comfortably, and he rode beautifully in the car.

All of these little things make us wonder about Cash's past.

Someone taught him.

Someone spent time with him.

Someone helped him become the wonderful dog he is today.

And while we may never know what happened between then and the day he arrived at the shelter, we're determined to make sure his next chapter is the one that lasts forever.

Cash doesn't need an extreme amount of exercise.

He doesn't need to run for miles every day.

He doesn't need to be the busiest dog in the neighborhood.

He just needs to be included.

Take him for a good walk. Let him join you on a hike. Bring him along for a car ride or a dog-friendly outing. Give him some affection.

Then watch this big, goofy, gentle boy settle down beside you, ready to spend the rest of the evening simply being near his favorite person.

At 7 years old, Cash is at that perfect age where you can enjoy the adventure without the chaos and the companionship without the constant need for motion.

He's handsome.

He's gentle.

He's affectionate.

He's social.

He's a giant cuddle bug with enormous paws and an even bigger heart.

Cash is ready for the person who will appreciate everything that makes him special — and give him the forever home he deserves.
