Rip
Rip is a 4-year-old male German Shorthaired Pointer who needs a loving home. His beautiful liver and white roan coat catch the eye. This strong, intelligent dog has a high prey drive. Once Rip warms up to people, he shows his sweet and gentle side. He's also house-trained and crate-trained.
Rip hasn’t had any formal training that we know of. He does know “sit” and “shake”, and is treat motivated, so he should be easy to train.
Rip loves water, and loves to ride in the car, so he could be an excellent adventure buddy for someone who is active. Rip is strong, and needs some managing when leash walking, and would benefit from using a Canny Collar to curb the pulling.
An active home where Rip can get plenty of daily exercise and training and stimulation to keep him busy, and a secure yard to chase lizards would be ideal for Rip.
The Basics
Gender: Male
Age: 4
Dogs: No small dogs. Could possibly do well with larger dogs with proper introduction.
Good with Cats: No cats due to high prey drive.
Kids: Unknown
The Good Stuff:
Once he warms up, Rip becomes friendly with people. He knows "sit" and "handshake". He's house-trained and crate-trained, and his stamina and strength can be an asset for active owners.
The Challenges:
Rip needs leash training since he pulls on the leash. His high prey drive means he's not suitable for homes with cats or small furry animals. As a strong, energetic dog, he requires regular exercise and mental stimulation.
What our volunteers are saying about Rip:
"Rip is very sweet and gentle with people".
"He knows sit and handshake".
"He can jump incredibly high for his size".
"Rip makes nests in his blanket when getting ready for bed".
