Bruno and Joy: Rescued Before the July 5th Shelter Rush

The kennels were already crowded, and the shelter expected even more frightened, lost dogs to arrive the next day.

On July 4th, California GSP Rescue volunteer Greg came to meet two German Shorthaired Pointers named Bruno and Joy. July 5th is usually one of the busiest days for animal shelters because many dogs run away after being scared by fireworks. Saving Bruno and Joy that day not only changed their lives, but also made room in the kennels before the expected rush.

Joy had a microchip, but when the shelter reached her registered owner, both Bruno and Joy were given up. Joy also seemed to have recently had puppies and was still nursing when she was found. We may never know what happened to her puppies or how she and Bruno became strays.

We think Bruno might be one of Joy’s puppies. Joy is about six years old, and Bruno is likely between three and five. Besides their good looks, both dogs are affectionate, smart, playful, and love being around people.

Bruno is the sillier one, a lovable ball of energy whose personality shines right away. Joy is a bit calmer, but she is still active, attentive, and eager to please. Both dogs need adopters who can give them the exercise, love, and ongoing training that German Shorthaired Pointers require.

Bruno and Joy came in together, but they can be adopted separately. Bruno is ready for adoption now, and Joy will be available soon after her spay surgery.
