California Shelter Is Full: Plugger The GSP is Rescued

Have you ever seen an empty parking lot at an animal shelter? It's an unsettling sight, and that's precisely what greeted California GSP Rescue's volunteer Greg when he arrived to pick up Plugger, a German Shorthaired Pointer in desperate need of help. The sight of the desolate parking lot and knowing the shelter was euthanizing for space only solidified the gravity of his cause.

The shelter was at capacity, and dogs like Plugger were being euthanized with heartbreaking frequency simply because of space limitations. This wasn't the first time California GSP Rescue had encountered this heartbreaking situation. Many shelters are overflowing with young, adoptable dogs.

As Greg walked the kennels, he saw countless hopeful faces staring back at him. Young pups bounced excitedly while older dogs patiently waited for their turn. It was a stark reminder of the overwhelming number of dogs needing forever homes.

Plugger, a four-year-old GSP, was being kept in a kennel used for overflow. His soulful eyes seemed to plead, "Don't forget me." He had been surrendered to the shelter by a family who didn't give him the attention or the little exercise he needed. Bored alone in the yard, he entertained himself by digging for small furry animals. Thankfully, the shelter reached out to California GSP Rescue, pleading for them to give Plugger a second chance.

While Plugger wouldn't require the intense exercise routine of a younger dog, he still needs walks and playtime. He's a mellow boy with a heart full of love, waiting for the perfect family that won't leave him alone outside but consider him part of the family.

In the short time we have had Plugger, we are delighted with how easy it has been to manage him. He is crate-trained and will sleep quietly through the night. While he will need some work on a leash, he is responsive and will learn quickly.

If you think you can manage Plugger, we invite you to submit an application. If you want to help support our efforts to save dogs like Plugger, please consider becoming a Rescue Hero. Lastly, please share Plugger's post and video to help find him and the other dogs at the shelter homes. Together, we can make a difference.
