Second Chance for a GSP: Please Help Nico Find A Forever Home

A thin and scared German Shorthaired Pointer, Nico, found himself alone in the crowded shelter. The constant barking and unfamiliar smells were overwhelming. Standing alone in a corner of his kennel, he whimpered, his ribs jutting out prominently. Shelter life wasn't ideal for an active dog breed that was used to running and companionship. California GSP Rescue, alerted by a kind animal control officer, knew they had to help Nico find his forever home.

Volunteer David freed up his morning to pick up and deliver Nico to Volunteer Greg. At the transfer, Nico was initially unsure of the new person offering him treats with one hand and holding a camera in the other. However, it didn't take long for him to warm up. Nico was soon exploring his surroundings with a wagging tail. He was intelligent and playful. Why someone hadn't claimed him from the animal shelter was a question that both David and Greg pondered.

They speculated that many people have been getting dogs in the past few years without researching the breed. Sadly, many of these dogs would end up at an animal shelter once full-grown. Fortunately, dogs that found their way to GSP Rescue, like Nico, would be great candidates for those active families that knew and could manage the breed, which made all the effort that the shelter staff, David, Greg, and all the other volunteers put forth worth it. What was the saying? One man's unwanted discarded GSP is another man's treasure and best friend.

Why Nico ended up at the shelter remains a mystery. Perhaps his previous family's lifestyle changed, or maybe they simply weren't prepared for the energy and attentiveness this breed requires. Whatever the family's reason for abandoning their dog, it doesn't define Nico. He's a loving dog with the energy of a GSP, eager to find a family who can shower him with affection and provide the exercise he craves. If you can imagine Nico by your side on a jog, exploring new trails, or cuddling on the couch after a busy day, consider submitting an adoption application. He'd be a loyal companion that would fill your home with the light of love.

Even if you can't adopt, you can still be Nico's hero! Please share this post to help him find his perfect match. California GSP Rescue, an all-volunteer non-profit, relies on kind people like you. Consider becoming a Rescue Hero and support their mission of finding forever homes for amazing dogs like Nico.
