Ella Was Adopted—Then Dumped at a Different Shelter

Adoption was meant to be Ella’s grand finale, the moment her story found its happy ending. But just as the curtain seemed to fall, this young German Shorthaired Pointer found herself back at the beginning, her journey looping unexpectedly into the echoing chorus of dogs waiting in kennels of another shelter.

California GSP Rescue first heard of Ella’s story unfolding in a Los Angeles-area shelter, her name quietly added to our watchful list. As we mapped out ways to help, news came that she’d been adopted, a moment that usually signals hope, the promise of a new beginning.

But sometimes, hope arrives before readiness. Ella’s adopter soon discovered the whirlwind energy and boundless needs of a young, spirited GSP. They reached out, and we prepared to help find Ella a home that could truly match her heart. Yet before we could step in, Ella was surrendered once more, her paws crossing the threshold of yet another shelter.

With shelters already full, there was no time as the shelter requested assistance. Volunteer David rearranged his day and headed to get her and bring her safely into our care. Thanks to his help and the communication and cooperation of the shelter staff, Ella’s latest shelter stay was a short one.

Ella is in no way problematic; she is healthy, sweet, curious and possesses the energy that is normal for a young German Shorthaired Pointer. Although she wants attention, she also enjoys exploring, hunting, and using both her body and her mind. A simple stroll around the neighborhood won't suffice. She needs an owner who understands that two or three daily sessions of focused exercise, along with training and mental stimulation, will help her flourish.

Here is the full video of Ella's rescue.

Ella does not need someone to change who she is. She needs an active individual who recognizes that her energy, drive, and enthusiasm are part of what makes her special. She craves someone who is ready to give those qualities the right outlet.

If you feel the spark of recognition in Ella’s story, perhaps you are the one she’s been waiting for. And if adoption isn’t possible, sharing her journey might be the very act that leads her to the home she’s always deserved.
