Fifteen Pounds and a Second Chance: Klause’s Journey to a New Home
A story was written across Klause's frame when he arrived at California GSP Rescue.
He was extremely thin, with his ribs visible under his coat, and because he had been crated for a long time without exercise, his nails had become long. Nevertheless, despite this neglect, there was still a spark. He had a joyful, affectionate nature and was ready to run, play, and rediscover the world with someone who cared.
When Volunteer Irene had already spent much of the day driving to the shelter to rescue Klause, traffic on the Highway came to a standstill because of a serious accident, adding about two and a half hours to a trip that was already long enough. She stopped to give Klause some water and allowed him to stretch his legs, then carried on until they finally arrived at the meeting point.
It was a long day, but the journey had been worth it all.
When we took him into our care, it was obvious that our main aim was to help him regain his strength. Klause has now gained about 15 pounds, had his nails cut, and has been neutered. He may still put on a bit more weight, but the change is noticeable. He appears to be healthier, feels better, and is now available for adoption.
Klause is sweet, attentive, and friendly towards people, and he has gotten on well with both the large and small dogs that we have introduced him to. He might guard his food, so he should be fed separately from other dogs.
Most importantly, Klause needs someone who understands a young, active GSP. He will require substantial daily exercise and mental stimulation. Also, someone willing to make time for training. Once those needs are met, his affectionate side comes shining through.
Klause is not the only young dog waiting to be chosen. Jack, a one-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, and Bailey, a GSP mix nearing her third birthday, are also available. Each offers a different personality and energy level, but they share the same need: the right forever home.
