Jake Is adopted!
Jake was picked up as a stray and brought to Animal Services, where he waited in the quiet uncertainty that fills shelter walls. Days passed. No one came. Despite his youth, his friendliness, his good looks, and his easy way with other dogs, Jake remained. It didn’t make sense.
Jake was a young German Shorthaired Pointer with an easy, outgoing spirit. The kind of dog who should have found his place in the world long before he was rescued. From the moment he stepped through the door, Jake revealed his true self: all play, tail in motion, ready for whatever the day might bring. He greeted people with warmth, found his place among the other dogs, and quickly showed off his energy as a running companion.
At just about a year old, we knew Jake would benefit benefit in a home that would provide him with daily runs, structured play, and training, enabling him to grow into the remarkable companion he’s meant to be.
It’s hard to reconcile a dog like Jake with the reality of a shelter. Maybe, though, he was simply waiting for the right chapter to begin.
Hannah and Marcus applied for a dog up to 3 years of age. They weren’t in a rush. They were more focused on the dog being the right fit for them and their active lifestyle. While neither of them had ever had a GSP, Hannah’s brother has 2 GSP’s, so they were familiar with the energy and athleticism, and what would be required to keep a one year old GSP busy and happy.
We invited them out to meet Jake, and a couple of other dogs, but after meeting Jake, they didn’t want to meet anyone else! They had their eye on Jake from the beginning, and Jake was the one they took home.
Jake is now known as Hank, and living his best life! We have received some updates from Hannah and Marcus, and it is clear that this was the next chapter Jake was waiting for!
First night
“Hi Teri!
Yes we ended up spending all of our time with him and just fell in love with him!
His first night went really well. He slept in his crate perfectly! We had a very active day today and he’s been really loving his new surroundings!
Thank you so much”!
One week update
“Jake aka ‘Hank’ now is doing great! He is loving our back yard and even using the doggy door well. He loves the park and meeting new friends.
We are so in love with him! We cannot thank you all enough”!
One Month Update
“It has almost been 2 months since we adopted Hank (previously Jake) – we can’t believe it! Overall, Hank loves everyone and everyone loves Hank! We are so lucky to have the best boy, and we know it. At first, we thought his ‘chill’ and quiet manner was just a brief period of settling in, but that is truly Hank. We hardly hear a peep out of him – mainly just his footsteps following us around the house!
He loves meeting other dogs at the park, the beach, doggy day care, and will play with anyone that can keep up! We learned he needs at least a good 1.5-2 hours of very active play and a nice long walk to end the day. Other than that – he is a cuddle bug who loves naps, his Snoop toy, his stuffed ducks, and being anywhere we are! We really integrated him into our lives and bring him (literally) anywhere we can. If he has had his exercise for the day, he is happy to do whatever and hang out with whoever we’re with. All our friends and family cannot get over how settled in he is after such a short time.
We truly love Hank (aka Hankers, Hanky, Stinker) so much. Funny enough, we were supposed to meet 3 other GSP’s at the rescue but only met him. After our first few months together, we know it was meant to be!
Sincerely,
Hannah and Marcus”
