Left At The Shelter - Again: Copper’s Story

Sometimes rescue stories raise more questions than they answer. This is one of those stories.

Copper is a stunning 4-year-old all-liver German Shorthaired Pointer. He found himself back at an Animal Shelter in Los Angeles. The first time, someone came to claim him. But not this time.

Why didn't they come back for him?

It's a question we'll never truly know the answer to. Maybe the chaos of the 4th of July led to Copper slipping away again. Maybe his owner felt relieved or simply didn't notice he was gone. But this time, at the shelter, days went by, and his owner never showed up. No familiar face. No joyful reunion. Just Copper waiting in a crowded kennel.

Luckily, a call came in. A shelter staffer reached out to California GSP Rescue, and within twenty-four hours, David, one of our longtime volunteers, was on his way. Copper didn't know it yet, but his life was about to take a dramatic turn.

Since joining the rescue, Copper has proven to be nothing short of remarkable. He's not one of those "high drive, hard to handle" dogs. He's calm, crate trained, and polite with other dogs. And maybe best of all, he's a loyal Velcro dog, the kind who stays by your side out of love, not fear.

He's happy with a walk in the canyon, a play session with another pup, or simply following his person around the yard. He doesn't demand much – just a second chance.

When you look at Copper, you don't see a broken dog. You see a good boy who never should've been in that shelter in the first place.

So we're asking – can you help write the happy ending to Copper's story?
