Meet Willow: A German Shorthaired Pointer Who Found Hope
What happens to the dogs at the shelter no one picks? For Willow, it meant waiting alone in silence while the visitors passed by - until Rescue showed up.
After the 4th of July, Southern California shelters were inundated. Willow, a young German Shorthaired Pointer, arrived at one of them with another GSP by her side. When their stray hold was up days later, her companion was adopted. But Willow remained.
She looked sad, silent in her kennel, and overlooked by adopters. But we were watching. Willow was one of 12 GSP’s we tracked in shelters in July - unaware of the ones who would be in need of rescue. When no one stepped forward, we did.
California GSP Rescue brought Willow into our care. We immediately noticed a dog who was slightly unsure but willing. A lot of what seemed like new experiences. But, she had that spark -the curiosity GSP’s are known for. She would just need time.
Ryan, a volunteer from our team, introduced Willow to a new experience: her first Canicross run. The harness, the motion, the bond—it was all new. But by the end of that short run, you could already see the difference. Willow was leading with confidence. Running free. Smiling.
Willow is almost ready to be adopted, but, with so many recently rescued GSP’s, we are looking for a home now. She’ll thrive in a home with someone who has patience, time, and an active lifestyle.
