Missandei Knows Sit, Shake and How to Win a Heart
For more than a month, Missandei lingered in a kennel at the shelter, her days marked by the quiet ache of waiting. No family came searching, and though she had so much to give, she remained unseen, her hope flickering in the shadows.
At five years old, Missandei arrived as a stray, her past a mystery written in the soft gray lines of her face. The shelter gave her time, hoping someone would come for her, but the days slipped by, and still she waited. When the shelter, brimming with noise and need, reached out to California GSP Rescue, we understood: she needed a new chapter, a place where her search for belonging could truly begin.
Mike and Jennifer rearranged their day and picked her up the following morning. Missandei settled into the back seat beside Jennifer, soaking up the attention and watching the world pass outside the window. She rode like a dog who was ready to leave the uncertainty behind.
At the rescue, Missandei wasted no time revealing the echoes of a life once filled with care. She sits with quiet grace, offers her paw with gentle trust, and springs after a ball with a joy that is almost contagious. Bringing it all the way back is still a lesson in progress, but for her, the thrill is in the pursuit—the chase itself is where her spirit shines.
She faced another gentle test: a quiet coffee with Greg. Missandei followed him to the table, settled at his side, and waited with patient calm, her eyes fixed on the promise of connection. For her, the warmth of attention far outweighed the lure of any new scent on the patio.
Missandei shows the characteristics of her breed, being full of enthusiasm for adventure and movement, but by the age of five she has found something that many dogs still look for: the capacity to stop and enjoy a peaceful moment. When walking with the volunteers she does so in a gentle manner, goes into her crate without any hesitation, and meets other dogs with calm curiosity. Since she might have had her early experiences without gentle introductions, care and patience should be exercised when meeting new canine friends.
Above all, Missandei feels a strong attachment to people, as her greatest comfort is found when you are beside her.

Even though Missandei may have been overlooked at the shelter, her story doesn't have to conclude with her still waiting. If she sounds like the companion you've been looking for, why not apply to adopt her? If that's not an option, then you can help by supporting California GSP Rescue or by just spreading her story, which will in turn help Missandei to reach the person who has been waiting for her as well.
