Oreo had a grievance to air. The coffee, warm and fragrant, was stealing the spotlight that so clearly belonged to him.
We stopped off after leaving the shelter, and the rescued eight-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer was making himself heard from the back of the car. He wanted out. He wanted pets. Coffee could wait.
That's a pretty good introduction to Oreo.
Someone who regularly alerts us to dogs in the shelters emailed us about him on Sunday. He'd been there for nearly a week and we'd never known. Thanks to someone who took the time to let us know. Those emails are invaluable in helping us find dogs we might otherwise have missed.
Oreo had a microchip, but nobody reclaimed him during his shelter stay. We also found an earlier record of him at the same shelter, although we don't know the full story behind that visit. What we can tell you is that the dog who came with us has a wonderfully happy disposition.
He likes a walk, is up for a hike, and loves the attention. He's in good health and is quite active, with far less exercise requirement than the majority of GSPs at 1 or 2 years old. He still needs plenty of daily exercise, training, and companionship. He's done very well with the dogs he's met so far.
Gunnar offers a different kind of adventure. This gorgeous three-year-old GSP has extra energy and an enthusiasm for fetch that will need sensible limits. Have you ever had a dog who made you hide the tennis ball? You may understand Gunnar.
His family got in touch as they were concerned about his reaction to their young child. We're looking for a home without children and are still assessing his suitability with other dogs. Oreo and Gunnar are both looking for separate homes, each matched to their own needs.

If you're considering a German Shorthaired Pointer and can manage giving them the attention they need, consider adopting. You can also become a Rescue Hero or share their story. One share could lead to a lifetime of love, companionship, and the chance to be someone's best friend.
