Ivy Has Places to Go: A GSP Rescue Story
We visited the hardware store for plumbing supplies, and Ivy came along to see what else was going on.
It might have seemed like a simple errand, but for Ivy, it marked the gentle beginning of a brand-new chapter. Just four years old, she had only recently left the echoing kennels of Kern County Animal Services, carried by our volunteers into the hopeful arms of California GSP Rescue. With quiet trust, she settled into her crate, nibbled a snack, and took the first steps on her journey toward something brighter.
At the hardware store, we selected a toy. Ivy looked as though she wanted to explore. Probably her first trip other than the shelter. Everything was new as she hunted the aisles. Ivy has also met a couple of well-socialized dogs. She was at ease with everyone but was extremely interested, something that could change as she settles in.
A little Southern California rain won’t keep Ivy from her walks. She’s an active German Shorthaired Pointer, eager for movement and the rhythm of the outdoors. The family who welcomes her home should be ready for daily adventures, patient training, and the kind of affection that grows with every shared sunrise. Walks and hikes are just the beginning.
Ivy’s eye needs a little extra care, and we’re arranging an appointment with our vet. For now, we’re simply grateful for the chance to rescue her and learn her gentle ways one outing at a time.
Ivy isn’t the only GSP starting anew. Atlas, a striking three-year-old full of energy and longing for adventure, needs someone who understands her need for reassurance. Her past owner struggled with her separation anxiety, so Atlas is searching for a companion who can offer patience, exercise, and the steady comfort of presence.
Then there’s Oliver, five years old and shaped by the warmth of family life. He grew up with children, shared quiet moments with cats, and played alongside a small dog. But then his life shifted. Separation, a move, and a new job changed everything for his owner, and so Oliver found his way to us, ready for a new chapter.
