Rescued, Safe, and Ready to Run: Wink’s Journey

Some dogs are happy with a walk around the block. Wink is not one of them.

Wink is a young, outgoing German Shorthaired Pointer who came into California GSP Rescue during a hectic stretch when shelters across Southern California were swamped with dogs in need of homes. She was one of many dogs who needed help fast—and thanks to the quick action of volunteers Ray and Irene, she made it out safely and into the care of California GSP Rescue.

Wink’s energy is unmistakable from the first moment. She comes alive in open spaces, nose to the wind, legs moving in a blur as she chases scents only she can sense. Give her a field and a long line, and you’ll see her true self—curious, focused, and free. Just half an hour outside, and her world feels right again.

That balance is everything. Wink isn’t overwhelming—she’s simply waiting for someone who understands how her days need to look, someone who knows that adventure doesn’t take time off. For now, she needs two or three good runs a day, the kind that leave both dog and human content. If you’re a runner, she’ll match your stride, three or five miles at a time, and when the miles are behind her, she settles in, content and calm.

Wink’s story is also a reminder that rescue isn’t simply about saving lives—it’s about finding the right homes for the dogs. She’s not the right fit for everyone, and that’s okay. Older dogs or calmer breeds might be a more suitable match for some families. For others, Wink is exactly the companion they’ve been searching for.

Now, Wink is safe. She’s healthy. All that’s left is for her to find the home she’s been waiting for.
