Meet Brie — A Shy Girl Who Just Needs Someone to Believe in Her

Meet Brie, a beautiful black-and-white GSP mix with a sweet soul and a story of incredible progress.

Brie didn't have the easiest start in life. She was dumped at an apartment complex along with her mother and siblings, where Animal Control found them and brought them to a local shelter. There, Brie and her siblings were extremely timid and fearful of people.

Brie was so frightened that it was difficult to see the wonderful dog hiding underneath all that fear.

But California GSP Rescue couldn't give up on her.

We knew that with patience, understanding, and love, Brie could learn that people could be trusted and that the world didn't have to be such a scary place.

And she has proven us right.

Look How Far Brie Has Come

Since coming into rescue, Brie has made tremendous progress.

She's learning routines. She's learning to trust. She's learning that people bring good things.

And perhaps most importantly, she's learning how much fun life can be.

Brie absolutely LOVES to play. And when we say loves, we mean LOVES!

Playing with other dogs has been especially important for Brie. She enjoys engaging with dogs who want to play, and having confident canine companions around has helped her understand routines and feel more comfortable in her environment.

She's also a quick learner and responds beautifully to positive-reinforcement training. Food and treats are excellent motivators for this smart girl, and her progress shows what can happen when she's given the time and encouragement she needs.

Brie knows how to use a doggy door and is 99% house trained. She's also crate trained and does well settling on a dog bed.

Although she has been known to occasionally try to dig a hole in her dog bed.

She's still figuring out what exactly beds are supposed to be used for!

Brie Needs Patience, Not Pressure

The most important thing to know about Brie is that she cannot be rushed.

She may be shy when meeting new people, and it takes time for her to feel comfortable. Her adopter will need to allow her to approach at her own pace and never force interaction before she's ready.

But when Brie begins to trust you, you'll see another side of her.

The playful girl.

The curious girl.

The affectionate girl.

The girl who wants to be part of the fun.

And the girl who has so much potential waiting to shine.

Brie would do particularly well with a confident, well-socialized dog who enjoys playing and can help show her that new experiences are nothing to fear.

Her ideal adopter will be patient, gentle, understanding, and committed to continuing the work that has already helped Brie come so far.

The Challenges

Brie is initially very shy and cannot be rushed.

Her new family will need to give her time to decompress, settle in, and build a relationship at her own pace. Continued positive-reinforcement training and socialization will be important.

She would do best with a patient adopter who understands that confidence isn't something you can force—it is something you build.

A calm, well-socialized dog who enjoys playing could be a wonderful companion for Brie and help her continue to gain confidence.

Because of her timid nature, a home without children is best for her.

From Fearful to Fearless—One Little Step at a Time

Brie's journey is one of the reasons rescue matters so much.

When she arrived at the shelter, she was scared.

She didn't know that the people around her were there to help.

She didn't know that she would someday enjoy playing.

She didn't know that treats could mean good things.

She didn't know that a doggy door would become part of her routine.

She didn't know that she could learn to trust.

But someone believed in her.

And now we're watching that belief pay off.

Brie is discovering that people can be kind.

That hands can bring affection instead of fear.

That another dog can be a friend.

That a bed can be a comfortable place to sleep—even if occasionally it looks like a digging project.

And that life can actually be pretty wonderful.

Brie isn't going to be the dog who runs up to a stranger and immediately asks for a belly rub.

She's going to need her person to earn her trust.

But for the right person, earning Brie's trust will be one of the most rewarding things they've ever done.

Because when a dog who was once afraid finally chooses to come to you, lean into you, play with you, or simply relax beside you...

you know you've been given something incredibly special.

Brie has already come so far.

Now she needs someone willing to walk the rest of the journey with her.
