Cowboy

Cowboy is a handsome adult male German Shorthaired Pointer with a gentle nature and an easygoing personality. He and Mash were first seen in the parking lot of a Jack in the Box in Compton, devouring leftover food as though they had not eaten properly in days. The two dogs later ended up at different shelters, and we still do not know exactly why.

Once Cowboy was safe with California GSP Rescue, volunteers quickly discovered a sweet, affectionate, and playful dog, who wants to be close to people. He leans into affection and will bury his head against you, soaking up every pet as though he may not have received enough attention in his previous life.

The Challenges:

Cowboy came to the Rescue, thin and with skin irritation suggesting he had not received proper care. He also has thickened areas and scarring near his legs, called hygromas, which can develop when a dog spends long periods lying on hard surfaces.

Some of the scarring may remain, but Cowboy is now receiving good nutrition, medical care, exercise, affection, and soft bedding.

Because we do not know much about his previous life, his adopter should be prepared to reinforce basic manners, household routines, leash skills, and training as he adjusts to a new home.
