Meet Neptune — A Sweet, Silly Boy Who Just Wants to Be Your Best Buddy!

It is hard to imagine that someone could look at this incredibly sweet boy and leave him in a cage on the side of the road. But that is exactly how Neptune was found.

Thankfully, his story didn't end there.

Today, Neptune is safe and waiting for someone to show him what life is supposed to be like — a life filled with love, adventure, affection, and a person who thinks having a silly, energetic, velcro GSP by their side sounds like the best thing ever.

Neptune is an adorable, exuberant, incredibly affectionate young GSP mix who loves being around people. He wants to be your buddy, your adventure partner, your walking companion, and quite possibly the star of your household. He absolutely loves attention and will happily soak up every bit of affection you are willing to give.

And Neptune is FUN!

He has plenty of that classic GSP energy and a wonderfully silly puppy side. He loves running, playing, toys, getting out into the fields, and simply having a good time. When he's excited to go outside, he REALLY lets you know it! He can get a little wild in his kennel, but once he's out and has the opportunity to stretch his legs and burn off some energy, you see the sweet dog underneath all that excitement.

One of our volunteers said it perfectly: “He goes a little crazy in the kennel, but once he is out and gets that energy out, he's just a love.”

And what a love he is.

Neptune walks well on a leash, with some initial pulling that settles down after he's been out for a bit. He's food motivated and knows sit, making him a willing participant in training. During a recent video session, he was remarkably patient and did an excellent job staying where he was asked. He even handled bath time beautifully and quietly relaxed in his crate afterward for a nap.

He's also a social boy who enjoys playing with other dogs and has done well with well-mannered, socialized dogs.

Neptune is crate trained and loves car rides, so he is ready to start enjoying life with his forever person.

Things His Forever Family Should Know

Neptune is active. He will need an individual or family who understands the exercise and training needs of a young GSP mix and is committed to providing him with plenty of both.

He needs daily opportunities to run, explore, play, learn, and use his brain. A secure yard would be ideal, but a yard alone isn't enough — Neptune needs a family who will actually get out there and do things with him.

He also has a bit of a mischievous puppy streak. He loves his toys, but he hasn't quite mastered the concept that blankets aren't toys too! His new family should be prepared to continue teaching him appropriate chewing and play habits.

We don't know yet if Neptune is house trained, so his adopters should be prepared to start from scratch and establish a consistent routine in his new home.

Neptune is also afraid of fireworks. During storms or fireworks, he'll need a calm, secure place to decompress and a person who understands that he shouldn't simply be left alone to cope with his fear.

He doesn't need a perfect person.

He needs his person.
