Meet Robert — A Sweet Boy Waiting to Find His Confidence

Meet Robert, a handsome young GSP mix with the sweetest eyes and a gentle heart.

Robert came to rescue along with his siblings and his mom, Stacie Peppers, after they were abandoned in a home when their owners moved away.

While Robert has had quite a transition in his young life, he's showing us more and more of the wonderful dog he can become.

He's just waiting for someone to believe in him.

Robert is a little shy and doesn't always have the confidence to jump right into new situations. The world can be a big, sometimes scary place for this young boy, and he's easily spooked by unfamiliar sights and sounds.

But underneath that shyness is a very sweet and affectionate little guy.

Once he's comfortable, Robert enjoys being petted and loved on. He comes to people for affection and enjoys spending time with those he trusts. He also absolutely loves playtime and has a great time playing with his siblings.

Robert does pretty well on a leash and is a mild, easygoing boy to walk. Sometimes, though, his uncertainty gets the better of him. He may hesitate to move forward if he isn't feeling confident, and he does best when he has a dog or person nearby to reassure him.

One volunteer noticed that Robert was much more comfortable when his sibling Logan was close by. When unfamiliar dogs passed, he would sometimes hide behind his person, and loud or unexpected noises — including a passing train — made him nervous.

Robert isn't looking for someone who expects him to be brave on day one.

He's looking for someone who will patiently show him that the world is a safe place.

With consistent walks, positive-reinforcement training, patience, and lots of encouragement, we believe Robert's confidence will grow. And when it does, we're pretty sure his adopter is going to discover an amazing companion.

Things Robert's Forever Family Should Know

Robert is still developing his confidence. He can be shy, easily spooked, and hesitant in unfamiliar environments, particularly around strange dogs or loud, unexpected noises.

His new family will need to be patient and understanding as he adjusts.

Consistent daily walks and positive training will be important, not only for exercise but also for helping Robert learn that new experiences don't have to be scary.

He may benefit from having a confident, well-mannered dog as a companion, but his new family should ultimately be prepared to help him develop confidence on his own.

And remember — Robert is still only one year old. He's a puppy in a young adult body and will need plenty of appropriate exercise, playtime, training, and mental stimulation.

And one very important thing: Robert is not yet house trained. Her adopter will need to establish a consistent routine and patiently help her learn the expectations of her new home.

His new home should also be puppy-proofed to help keep this curious young boy safe while he's learning the rules.
