Stacie Peppers
Meet Stacie Peppers, a young, resilient GSP mom who defied the odds to keep her family safe. Found abandoned in an empty house and severely emaciated from nursing her eight puppies, Stacie is a testament to a mother's love. Now that she is safe in rescue, this gentle soul—who surprisingly already knows her commands and travels well in the car—is eating two solid meals a day. She has regained her strength. While she arrived with a reputation as an "escape artist," she has shown us that she is focused, affectionate, and currently prefers to stay close to her people.
But despite this heartbreaking neglect, Stacie is not broken. She is nothing short of a revelation.
On just her second full day in rescue, this young GSP mom stunned volunteers with her focus. Unlike the typical young GSP distracted by every passing squirrel or leaf, Stacie locked in on her handler. She is incredibly treat-motivated and, to our amazement, already knows her "sit" and "down" commands perfectly. She is gentle, sweet, and has maintained a wonderful disposition despite her ordeal.
She is ready for adoption now that her puppies are weaned and she has recovered her health.
The Basics
Gender: Female
Age: 2
Dogs: Good with most well-socialized dogs when on walks
Cats: OK with office cat
Kids: Unknown history
The Good Stuff:
Incredible Focus: Rare for a young GSP in a new environment, she isn't easily distracted and listens intently to her handler.
Trained Traveler: She jumped right into her crate for transport and was very quiet and calm during the car ride.
A Diamond in the Rough: She is very smart, treat-motivated, and already knows basic commands, showing immense potential for future training.
The Challenges:
Recovery Road: Stacie was severely underweight from nursing eight puppies while starving herself. She has mostly recovered but will need attention to make sure she keeps the weight on
The "Escape Artist" Label: She arrived with a tag bearing this title. While she currently stays close, a secure environment is a must given her known agility.
Not a Fetcher (Yet): She currently shows more interest in treats and her handler than in tennis balls.
What our volunteers are saying about Stacie Peppers:
"She's gentle. She's just a really sweet, sweet girl."
"Being in a car doesn't scare her."
"This is crazy. You don't find this."
"Such a good mom."
"So impressive."
“No idea why we still have this girl! I even had a volunteer comment that they're amazed she hasn't been adopted yet! She's so friendly and gets along with everyone she meets. When I have a new volunteer, or volunteers who need easier dogs, she's always my first pick. She is soft and gentle, plus walks well on leash. She gets the typical excitement at first on leash, but even when excited, she will still sit at your feet to greet you! She does jump when initially taken out of the kennel, but never jumps hard and is easily corrected. She loves being loved on and has done so well with everyone who comes to volunteer. She's so easy and is just overall such a good dog. She plays and runs, but isn't overly energetic. After her walks, she cozies up in her blankets. I've tucked her in underneath her blanket before and she seemed to love being a little cuddle bug under her blankets. I have one volunteer who occasionally comes with her autistic son, who Stacie does very well with, so she does well with kids, as far as I can tell! She's very patient and doesn't mind the rough pets that kids sometimes give”.
