Meet Tucker — A Sweet Senior Looking for His Person

Tucker | 8 years old | Male | White & Liver | German Shorthaired Pointer

Meet Tucker, a handsome white-and-liver GSP with a sweet personality and a heart that simply wants to be close to his people.

At eight years old, Tucker has left the puppy craziness behind, but don't think he's ready to spend his days doing nothing! He still enjoys getting outside, playing in the water, chasing lizards, sniffing around the yard, and having a little fun with a ball.

But what Tucker really seems to enjoy most?

Being with his people.

He's an affectionate boy who loves pets and treats, and he's happiest when he's included in what's going on around him.

Tucker is also a social guy who does well around other dogs. He rides nicely in the car, listens well, and is treat motivated. He'll happily show you that he knows “sit” when there's a tasty reward involved!

Tucker Needs a Person Who Will Be There

One of the most important things to know about Tucker is that he has some separation anxiety.

Because of this, Tucker needs a home where someone is retired, works from home, or otherwise has the ability to spend a lot of time with him. He would do best with someone who can include him in their daily routine and limit the amount of time he is left alone.

Tucker isn't looking for a home where he'll spend most of the day by himself.

He's looking for someone who wants a companion.

Someone who wants a dog beside them while they work.

Someone who will take him along when possible.

Someone who enjoys having their dog nearby.

Tucker wants to be part of your life.

An Older GSP With Plenty of Fun Left

Tucker may be eight, but there's still a playful side to this handsome guy.

He has some interest in the ball and enjoyed playing fetch for a bit. He's still working on the finer points of the game, though—he'll retrieve the ball but doesn't always think giving it back is part of the deal.

On walks, Tucker can pull a little when something gets him excited, but he listens well and is manageable.

He doesn't appear to have had a lot of formal training and doesn't know many commands yet. However, he's treat motivated and willing to listen, giving his adopter a great opportunity to teach him some new skills.

Things Tucker's Forever Family Should Know

Tucker has some separation anxiety and needs a home where he won't be left alone for long periods.

His ideal adopter would be retired, work from home, or otherwise have a flexible lifestyle that allows Tucker to spend most of his time with his people.

He also needs a securely fenced yard where he can safely enjoy some outdoor time, explore, play in the water, and indulge his fascination with lizards.

Tucker's previous training appears to have been limited, so his adopter should be prepared to continue teaching him basic commands and household manners. He's food motivated, though, which should make training more enjoyable for everyone.

He may pull a little when excited on walks, but he listens well and is manageable.

His interactions with cats and children are currently unknown.

Why We Love Tucker

Tucker is one of those dogs who doesn't need to convince you he's special.

He just wants to be near you.

He loves being petted.

He loves getting treats.

He enjoys riding in the car.

He likes other dogs.

He'll play a little fetch.

He'll splash around in the water.

He'll chase a lizard like it's the most important mission of the day.

And when the fun is over, he's perfectly happy just hanging out with his favorite person.

At eight years old, Tucker is at that wonderful stage where you can skip much of the chaos of puppyhood while still having a dog who enjoys getting out and having adventures.

He's not asking for an elaborate life.

He's asking for a connected one.

He needs someone who will be there.

Someone who will give him companionship.

Someone who will take him along.

Someone who will give him a secure yard, some exercise, continued training, and lots and lots of affection.

Most of all, he needs someone who understands that for Tucker, being with his person is what makes a house feel like home.

If you're looking for a sweet, seasoned, affectionate adult GSP, and have the time and lifestyle to keep Tucker company, he may be the perfect companion for you.

Tucker has spent enough time waiting for someone to choose him. He's ready to spend his golden years knowing exactly where he belongs.‍ ‍
