Iris Is Adopted!

Iris — A Little Sweetheart with a Whole Lot of Love to Give, HAS FOUND HER FOREVER HOME!

Iris was just six months old when she and her siblings were surrendered to the shelter by their owner. Still a puppy with her whole life ahead of her, this adorable German Shorthaired Pointer mix was ready to find the family who would love her forever.

As we got to know Iris, we quickly discovered what a special girl she was. Sweet, happy, affectionate, and full of puppy charm, Iris had a way of capturing your heart without even trying!

Being a GSP mix, she was a little easier to manage than a six-month-old purebred German Shorthaired Pointer, but make no mistake — Iris was still very much a puppy! She would need daily walks, playtime, mental stimulation, and continued training to help her grow into the wonderful companion she was meant to be.

And what a beautiful girl she was! Iris had some of the most incredible markings, making her every bit as striking on the outside as she was sweet on the inside.

She loved people and soaked up all the pets, attention, and affection they were willing to give. She also enjoyed the company of other dogs and was always happy to find a playmate. Smart, playful, and eager to learn, Iris had so much potential and so much love to share.

She was the kind of puppy who could make you smile just by being herself — a little goofy, a little mischievous, and absolutely overflowing with sweetness.

Iris was the whole package: beautiful, loving, playful, and smart. All she needed was a family willing to help her navigate puppy hood and give her the time, patience, training, and love every young dog deserves.

And then, just when Iris needed her next chapter to begin, a wonderful family came along.

Peter and Alyssa, who had lost their beloved 12-year-old GSP, Bailey, the year before, were ready to welcome another dog into their lives. After meeting several possibilities, they met Iris — and sometimes, you just know.

The entire family fell in love with her, and Iris was the girl they wanted to bring home!

From a shelter puppy surrendered alongside her siblings to a cherished member of a family, Iris's story is a beautiful reminder that the right match can make all the difference.

Happy tails, sweet Iris! May your life be filled with playtime, adventures, endless belly rubs, and all the love your sweet puppy heart can hold. You found your family, and now your happily-ever-after begins.

First Night Update

“We are loving having Iris who we now named Indy after Indiana where Peter is from. On the ride from Beaumont to our home in Orange County, Indy got car sick and threw up multiple times in our brand-new car.

Upon arriving home, she was skittish and scared of everything. The TV made her nervous, she wasn’t comfortable going on the grass in the backyard, and while she went on walks, most often she didn’t want to go anywhere and would stop at the end of the driveway and refuse to keep going. She settled in well yesterday and played in the yard with the kids. We took her on her first walk and she met 2 of our neighbor friends’ dogs. When we came across friends and other dogs she wouldn’t really engage. While Indy liked being around us, it seemed like she was mostly indifferent.

She slept well last night and had a lot of play time this morning. We noticed today that her personality is coming out more and more as she adjusts to her new home. Peter and Lily took her on another walk to the park today and she is doing better and better each time on the leash. She has taken multiple naps snuggled up with me and the kids which we have loved! We have truly loved getting to know her and are thankful she is part of our family”!!

First Week Update

“We are continuing to love Indy and having her part of our family! She has found a love of laying on the couch and snuggling with us, which we all love, too!! She learned what she looks like from a mirror on our wall, is getting more comfortable with the TV and other sounds that she has not heard before, and was fascinated when Jacob had piano lessons the other day.

The kids have been active in playing with her, walking her & even picking up her poop. She is doing well with walking on the leash and sleeping in her crate. She is getting better each day with her name. She still cries briefly when we put her in at night, but we think that is because she would prefer to be with us.

We definitely have seen her acting more like a puppy these last few days, so we have watched some videos and will start training tomorrow.

All in all, she is doing amazing and we love her so much”!!

One Month Update

“What a month it has been!

Now, one month later, our Indy is a very different puppy! For her morning walk we now regularly go more than two miles. Most evenings she loves to sprint around the backyard playing with the kids and after dark catching the moths and beetles that fly around.  She now likes to meet anyone we come across on walks, and her best friend is our neighbor’s Corgi puppy, who shockingly puts up with Indy tackling him regularly. All other dogs she encounters she sees as potential new best friends.

We definitely have some training work to do to not jump up on people, to immediately put things down that she shouldn’t have, and not to get so excited about going after the possums and other animals we come across on walks.  Now two of Indy’s favorite things to do are lean in hard against one of us so we can give her a good ear rub and easily find a comfortable spot on the couch to relax on.

Indy has been a great addition to our family, and we are grateful for the California GSP Rescue team that helped us get matched with her”!
