Maddie and River Are Adopted!
For Sally and John, dogs have always been family. So when they lost both Corey and Jack far too soon, their hearts were shattered. Losing one beloved dog was painful enough; losing their second so soon afterward was almost unimaginable.
They had been in regular contact with California GSP Rescue, hoping to find a companion for Jack. But when Jack passed away suddenly, Sally and John knew almost immediately that, when the time was right, they wanted to open their hearts and home to dogs again.
That opportunity came when Maddie and River needed a new home.
Their owners had moved abroad, leaving these two adult GSP’s in need of a family. We desperately wanted to keep Maddie and River together, but finding someone willing to adopt two adult GSP’s was proving incredibly difficult.
Then Sally and John came along.
They didn't hesitate.
The moment Sally saw Maddie and River being brought out, she broke down. She turned to John and said:
“They are going home with us.”
And just like that, two dogs who had already lost the people they knew, found themselves walking into a new chapter together.
Sally provides this update:
“Life with our bonded pair, River and Maddie has been a blessing. We truly believe Jack and Corey chose these two. They have filled this property again with energy, chasing squirrels, lizards, digging for gophers, long naps and dips in the pool. All 4 of us in a queen size bed lol.
I do believe they know they have their forever home. Loving our grandkids. Maddie and River have developed a taste for avocados. They will bring an unripe one inside, and I’ll trade them for a peeled and scooped one.
Life is oh so good with GSP’s. We are truly so thankful for the call Greg made to us to stop by on our way home to meet these two. Happy ever after in Bonsall”.
Sometimes rescue stories are about finding the perfect dog. And sometimes they're about two broken hearts finding each other and becoming a family again. For Maddie and River, they didn't have to lose each other, too.
Thank you, Sally and John, for making Maddie and River part of your family, and for giving them a place where love is not just a promise but a daily reality. Because of you, they are together, loved, cherished, and finally home.
