They Called Bethany's Owner 3 Times—No One Came
Bethany didn’t cry. She waited.
She sat in a shelter kennel with a microchip implanted with her owner's contact information, her eyes full of hope—hope that someone would come. That her person would answer the phone. That the three voicemails the shelter left would mean something.
No one came.
Bethany, a beautiful young German Shorthaired Pointer, had all the markings of a loved dog. But love, it turns out, had left her behind.
When California GSP Rescue got the call, they didn’t wait. A volunteer jumped into action, driving to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. A facility that, even with all its resources, was bursting at the seams. While there, Bethany had been well cared for, getting love, attention, and exercise. She played daily in a 10-dog playgroup, surviving each day as hope faded.
When the volunteer arrived, it was heartbreaking. There were so many dogs looking to be adopted, and Bethany, skin and bones, had given up on her old owner. Her ribs, spine, and hips stuck out under her short coat. Still, her tail wagged as she welcomed her new visitor.
Once home, she explored. She ate. She curled up and slept through the night in a crate, as other rescued dogs slept nearby. She even tried to steal a loaf of bread—proof that her spirit (and appetite) were coming back.
Like most GSP’s, Bethany is full of energy and affection. She thrives on human connection and has a little separation anxiety. But more than anything, she wants to be near you. She wants a home, not just a yard with a doghouse, but warmth, laughter, and love.
Bethany’s story isn’t just about one dog. It’s about second chances. It’s about showing up when no one else does.
Many thanks to the Rescue Heroes who help support California GSP Rescue. They help make the dream achievable.
